Rationale:
At Nailsworth C of E Primary School, we believe that the wearing of a school uniform enables students to identify with our school, gives a sense of belonging, is practical and smart, reinforces a positive work ethos and reduces expenditure for parents/carers. We ask that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in school-organised events outside normal school hours.
All children have equal access to wearing school uniform regardless of their culture, race, religion, gender, disability or ability. This policy links to our school Equalities policy and allows for individual sets of circumstances of all groups and individuals. Nailsworth C of E Primary School is committed to creating a positive climate that will enable everyone to work free from racial intimidation and harassment and to achieve their full potential.
The aims of our Uniform Policy are to:
• Ensure clarity around appropriate uniform choices;
• Promote a sense of pride in our school;
• Help to create a sense of community and belonging towards the school;
• Ensure that our pupils can be clearly linked with our school;
• Support our commitment to inclusion;
• Ensure pupils’ uniforms are practical, smart, affordable and are suitable, with health and safety in mind;
• Ensure that pupils are dressed smartly.
Our Policy:

Additional optional but recommended kit:
In the cold weather, particularly in the winter months, children are expected to wear coats and can also wear a hat/ear-muffs, scarf and gloves if they choose.
On hot days all children are expected to wear uniform (although not jumpers). Items such as polo-shirts / short-sleeved shirts, tailored shorts, red (maroon) gingham summer dresses are all appropriate in the hot weather.
Please make sure that ALL clothing and footwear is clearly marked with your child’s name – either with a laundry pen or iron-on/sew-in labels.
Children are encouraged not to wear items of jewellery in school, with the exception of stud earrings and wristwatches, as items often cause minor accidents or become lost.
We are committed to supporting our families in providing their child with the correct uniform. If children are not wearing the correct uniform, staff will make contact with families to provide support. If your child is eligable for Pupil Premium, we are happy to fund the cost of uniform - just let us know what you need! Alternatively, any family is welcome to access our Pre-Loved Uniform Storage Unit in the Main Office which is sorted into size order. Feel free to take what you need. There is an optional Honesty Box on the top of the unit - donations are optional and donated to the School Fund.
